join the blue & gold society

We recently created the Blue and Gold Society of the Dennis J. Smith Legacy Foundation to recognize those people who include the Legacy Foundation in their estate plan. By including the Legacy Foundation in your Will or Living Trust you can make an important and lasting gift while also achieving your own personal financial and estate planning goals. A gift is easy to arrange and will not alter your current lifestyle. A gift to the Foundation can take many forms and because it qualifies for the estate tax charitable deduction it may reduce your taxable estate.

If you do include the Foundation in your Will or Trust, we ask that you notify someone from the Foundation. It is important for a representative of the Foundation to know the donor's intent for three reasons. First, this allows us to ensure your intentions are fulfilled. Second, we can recognize and honor you during your lifetime. Third, your action provides inspiration to other Dennis J. Smith Legacy Foundation supporters.

how to make a gift

You can include the Legacy Foundation in your Will or Trust.

You can add the following language to your estate documents: I give and devise to the Dennis J. Smith Legacy Foundation of Kankakee, Illinois, ______________ dollars.

or

I give and devise to the Dennis J. Smith Legacy Foundation of Kankakee, Illinois, ____________ percent of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate, both real and personal, to be used for its general support (or the support of a specific program).

You can name the Legacy Foundation as a beneficiary.

You may name the Dennis J. Smith Legacy Foundation as a beneficiary of your qualified retirement plan, such as a 401(k) or 403(b) account, IRA, profit sharing pension plan or other qualified retirement benefits. By naming the Legacy Foundation as a beneficiary of a retirement plan, you maintain control over the assets while living. Donors should consult with their tax advisor regarding the tax benefits of such gifts.

We can help.

If you or your attorney would like the Dennis J. Smith Legacy Foundation to provide you with customized beneficiary language that is specific to your goal and interest, please contact us at 815-739-2198 or pmneirbo@gmail.com.
